  1. Joh 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

  2. Eph 2:8-9 For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, (9) not of works, lest anyone should boast.

  3. Grace isn’t an excuse to sin , it is our power from the dominance of sin • Rom 5:20-21 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. BUT WHERE SIN ABOUNDED, GRACE DID MUCH MORE ABOUND: (21) That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. • Grace is the only acceptable way to serve God • Heb12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, LET US HAVE GRACE, WHEREBY WE MAY SERVE GOD ACCEPTABLY WITH REVERENCE AND GODLY FEAR: • Grace works out what God has freely given us in Christ • Heb13:20-21 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, (21) Make you perfect/mature in every good work to do his will, WORKING IN YOU THAT WHICH IS WELLPLEASING IN HIS SIGHT, THROUGH JESUS CHRIST; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. • Grace is the greatest teacher for right living; it looks for Jesus to return, andworks good works through us. • Tit 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation hath appeared to all men, (12) Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; (13) Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (14) Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

  4. Healthy Grace Preaching • Always Christ exalting • Always Emphasizes Christ finished work on the cross • Always emphasizes our completeness in Him • Always declares His sufficiency and power in us to walk in godliness • Always It will speak all of God’s truth –concerning sin, salvation by faith, holiness, hell, giving, loving, serving, etc.

  5. Grace Robbers • Man made rules • Church Tradition • Adding law to Grace Col 2:8 Beware lest anyone rob you through philosophy and vain deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ…Col 2:20-23 IF THEN YOU DIED WITH CHRIST from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, are you subject to its ordinances: (21) touch not, taste not, handle not; (22) which things are all for corruption in the using, according to the commands and doctrines of men? (23) These things indeed have a reputation of wisdom in self-imposed worship and humility, and unsparing severity of the body, BUT ARE NOT OF ANY VALUE FOR THE SATISFYING OF THE FLESH.

  6. Grace And Human Works Contrasted • Trying to keep God’s laws is human effort in an attempt to be accepted by God and to become righteous – Trying to keep human standards is an attempt to be accepted by another by our deeds • Grace is divine favor where we are accepted by God through Jesus and are given His own righteousness. Grace in Christian relationships accepts another on the basis of Christ’s merits in that person.

  7. The law showed up as a moral code to declare the holiness of God, but it gave no power, no righteousness, and condemns when its demands aren’t met. All human standards also are powerless to enforce good behavior, change the heart and condemns when those standards aren’t kept. • Grace showed up as the person of Christ Who is the holiest of all and gave of Himself to supply what man lacks within himself concerning salvation and sanctification/maturity.

  8. The law makes us look to ourselves and think of our failures. Human standards do the same. • Grace makes us look away from ourselves to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

  9. The Law was a mere shadow and tutor to bring us to Christ. It was the central theme under the old Covenant. – Do and live • Grace is the substance to which the law points. It is the person of Christ where forgiveness, and power for living is given through the life of another. Grace is the central theme of the New Covenant. Live and I will do through you

  10. Under the Law, forgiveness was given in yearly installments. Yearly • Under grace forgiveness is complete and eternal. Once and For All

  11. Under the law we are told to earn a 100% or else we are damned forever. • Jas 2:10 For whoever shall keep the whole Law and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. • Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

  12. Under grace God gives us Christ’s 100% and we are eternally in a right standing before Him by faith. Gal 3:11-14 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. (12) And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. (13) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (14) That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

  13. Failure to keep the law leads to a great white throne judgmentfor sin • Faith in Christ seats us with Christ in heavenly places with no judgment of sin • The law is complicated and its burden is heavy/impossible – do, do, do - work • Grace is easy and its burden is light. Believe, believe, believe – done, done, done – rest • The law is hard on sin and punishes the guilty • Grace is harder on sin and punished the innocent Son of God in our place • The law could produce no righteous children • Grace produces righteous children who become the co-heirs of God.
