  4. What is social media? • Merriam Webster defines social media in the following: “forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos)”

  5. Why social media? • It is important to establish a digital presence • Every business needs to adapt and change • Social media is very user friendly • We can reach a wider demographic

  6. What tools? • Begin with Facebook • If social media presence expands, Twitter • Privacy will be respected of both students and staff

  7. Investment • No monetary investment, free marketing! • Adding minimal hours to librarian’s duties • Current updates are important

  8. Takeaways • Having a social media presence can especially help small libraries establish an identity • This will be a free marketing investment with minimal duties added to the librarian • Creating an online presence can increase the use of library resources
