  3. Antisemitism 2005 Major Trends • A drop in violent incidents against Jews throughout the world has been noted. However there is an high incidence of anti-Semitism in various places • In Russia and Ukraine there is a drastic increase. • Europe and the Arab – Islamic Regions are the two problematic areas of antisemitic incidents and propaganda. • Muslim elements and right wing extremists lead the violent activities

Antisemitism 2005Major Trends • Extreme Right wing: continued strengthening of the extreme right wing – the established and unestablished – in various countries • Extreme left wing: encourages atmosphere of delegitimizing Israel on campuses, in the media and in the public arena • Church: continued activity of churches (Presbyterian, Anglican) for boycott of Israel

Antisemitism 2005Major Trends Arab and Islamic world: • The Jews are a preferred target of Al – Kaeda – this year as well intentions to attack Jewish targets by Jihad elements were uncovered • Iran stands out as the leader of antisemitic propaganda in the Islamic world (Destruction of Israel, demonization of Israel, denial of the Holocaust and Blood libel)

Resons for drop in scope101010 of Antisemitism • Upgrading in dealing with antisemitism in the international area and in many countries around the world • Forceful fight by many governments against incitement on the part of radical Islamic elements with the understanding that these are liable to become base for violence and even terror • Following the disengagement: • A drop in the profile of the Anti – Israel media coverage as a result of the relative quiet (previous coverage of IDF operations – “Defensive Shield”, and operations in Gaza Strip caused an increase in antisemitism) • Improvement of Israel’s image in the world

  18. Latin America • Scope of antisemitic events lower in comparison with Europe. However antisemitic propaganda is widespread • Increasing activities of skin – heads and neo – Nazis in Brazil, Argentina and Chile – violent attacks on Jews in Argentina and Brazil

The Arab – Islamic Region • The Jews are a preferred target of Al – Kaeda and world Jihad • In the Arab Region – the scope of antisemitism is high in the media in Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. However there is a relative decrease as a result of international pressure (especially in antisemitic TV series) • In the Palestinian Authority incitement in the official media has declined since Abu Mazen came to power, yet it is widespread in the media of the terror organizations

Forecast for 2006 • Jews will continue to be a preferred target of Al – Kaeda • Continued firm action by Western Governments against antisemites (paralleled to continued relative calm in the conflict). The relative low level of violent incidents will remain steady • In light of the lack of action by the authorities, the current situation in Russia and Ukraine will intensify the threat on the Jewish communities there • The state of the Israeli – Palestinian / Arab conflict will continue to directly affect the security of Jewish communities and the level of antisemitism • If drastic steps are not taken against centers of antisemitism in the Arab and Muslim world, it will continue to remain a major problematic region
