Program Accomplishments Current Market Penetration: • 13 billion sq. ft. in partnership (19% of all commercial buildings) • 29,000 buildings rated in Portfolio Manager (1,100 hospitals) In 2005, ENERGY STAR helped Americans achieve: • Energy cost savings = $12 billion • GHG reductions = 23 million cars

  6. Why Manage Energy? • Hospitals are the 2nd most energy-intensive commercial space-type • U.S. hospitals spend $8.5 billion* a year on energy • DOE predicts energy costs will continue to climb *CBECS 2003 www.doe.gov

  7. Financial Savings Non-Profits $1 saved in energy performance… $20 in new revenue (hospitals) $10 in new revenue (MOBs) For-Profits A 5% reduction in energy costs increases earnings per share by one penny.

  13. Albuquerque Indian Hospital • Training is a major focus of energy efficiency efforts • Attend 3 training courses each year ENERGY STAR rating: 87 • Trained to use controls systems • Routine (daily & monthly) preventative maintenance checks
