  2. Goals for Tonight • Explain the Superintendents vision of a Comprehensive Assessment System for the ISD • Provide an Overview of the Assessments given K-5 and Recent Results • Identify what is changing in the world of Assessment

  3. Improving Learning Thru a Comprehensive Assessment System • District created position paper synthesized from an OSPI initiated paper on assessment based on the work of Dr. Joe Ryan, Professor Emeritus at Arizona State University

  4. Why Common Assessments ? • Measurement of the effectiveness of our curriculum and instruction in meeting state standards • Greater continuity and consistency in the implementation of our curriculum across all of our schools • Better understanding of our needs for professional development

  5. Federal/State Level Testing Requirements • National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) • Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) • Washington English Language Proficiency (WELPA)/Placement and Annual Test • Second Grade Reading Assessment • Classroom Based Assessment/Civics

  6. District Assessments • Fountas and Pinnell Reading Assessment • Everyday Math • Physical Education Common Assessment • Stanford Achievement Test

  7. Annual Measurable Objectives • Annual Measurable Objectives are unique yearly targets in reading and mathematics for specific subgroups, schools and districts. • These targets focus on reducing achievement gaps with the goal of reducing by half the percent of students who are not proficient in AYP categories by spring of 2017. • The categories are: All, American Indian, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black, Hispanic, White, Pacific Islander, Two or More Races, Limited English, SPED, and Low Income. Each subgroup has unique annual targets. • Annual Measureable Objectives calculations use the 2010-2011 scores as a baseline and add six equal annual increments to reach the spring 2017 target.
