  1. Small talk is social conversation about unimportant things, often between people who do not know each other well. The most common topic of small talk is work.

  2. What do you do for a living? • I’m a salesperson. I’ve got a temporary job at the local market. It’s part time three days a week. I don’t like this job. It’s stressful and exhausting.

  3. What do you do? • I work for a finance company as an accountant. I love my job. It’s challenging and that’s why motivating. I have to work quickly and accurately. I use a range of software.

  4. I work at the Human Resources department in a large international company. I have to be good at dealing with people and solving problems.

  5. How’s your job going? Not bad. I’ve got a promotion to a more responsible position. I can finally afford to buy a car.

  6. Are you still working for that catering company? • No, I resigned from my post because of a disagreement with my boss. Now I’m out of work.

  7. Are you still working for that insurance company? • No, didn’t you hear? The company went bankrupt and I was made redundant. At the moment I’m unemployed.

  8. Are you still looking for a job? • Yes. I have applied for a few places, but they all turned me down. • No, I finally got a permanent job.
