Initial Software • Installed: • Windows 8 (with Upgrades) • Antec “ChillControl V” 1.2 (Installed) • “Real Temp” 3.7 (Installed) • Acronis “True Image 2014” (Installed) • “Windows Defender” (Incl. Windows 8) • Not Yet Installed: • Raid Configuration • ASUS Z87 Series Mobo Disc (Ethernet Drivers Only) • LG “Super Multi Blue Install Disc” • Windows 8.1

Windows 8 Install. • Tip: If drive C is the intended drive for the operating system, disconnect any other drives whilst installing Windows 8. • Reason: In our case Windows installed a partition entitled BOOTMGR on a hard drive that was not Drive C. • Solution: Disconnect drives (other than C) and run “Repair your Computer”. Reboot. • Delete unwanted boot manager partition.

  11. Win. 8 Upgrade: Clean Install • Problem: Windows 8 Upgrade won’t activate. • Solution: Simple edit of Registry. • References: • http://www.guidingtech.com/16405/probable-fix-activating-windows-8-clean-install/ • http://www.ghacks.net/2012/10/27/windows-8-upgrade-clean-install-possible/ • Procedure: • Install as normal. • In the registry navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/ Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/ • Double click on MediaBootInstall and change the value from 1 to 0. • From Command Prompt (Admin) executeslmgr /rearm and reboot. • Activate Windows 8 again using Product Key.

Freeing up SSD Disc Space or George Strikes Again! • Tip: Disable the Hibernation file. • Justification: Rarely used on Desktop (never on Demo PC). • Benefit: Releases space on Solid State Drive equivalent to installed RAM. (Our PC has 16GB.) • Procedure: From Command Prompt (Admin) executepowercfg /h off • More Info.: See George’s Article on page 22 of PC Update, August 2013
