  2. Percent of Change can be an increase or decrease • Set up a ratio ( fraction ) then change to a percent.

  3. Example: • Original: 14 • New: 16 • First find out how much it changes, up or down: Up 2 • Then set up the fraction: change = 2 = .143 = 14.3% original 14 increase

  4. Example: • Original: 150 • New: 120 • Change is Down 30: 30 = .2 = 20% decrease 150

  5. Total Cost: • Total Cost = price + tax cd = $15.99 tax = 5.75% (15.99)(.0575) = .92 15.99 + .92 = $16.91

  6. Total Cost: • Total Cost = Price - Discount cost = $ 19.95 discount = 40% (19.95)(.40) = 7.98 19.95 - 7.98 = $11.97
