  3. Causes Privileged bourgeoisie (middle class) resented by others in third estate. Peasants were heavily taxed, as nation went into further debt. (historically, the rich are not taxed: old idea)

  8. Reaction • By 1788, France was on the verge of bankruptcy • Bread riots in cities • Nobles fear the king will raise taxes. • 1789-Estates General meeting is held in Versailles. • The reps of all three estates are deadlocked and do not agree.

Write about what you will do to fix the broken economy. Persuade the 3rd Estate NOT to revolt against King Louis’ government.
