  1. Setting Up Your User Account on Profile e-portfolio Click to progress through this tutorial Profile Support Team profile@uwe.ac.uk

  2. Getting started … Click to progress through this tutorial • This tutorial takes you through setting up your e-portfolio user account on Profile. • But first some background …

  3. About your Profile e-portfolio account … • The Profile system provides students with a personal, secure electronic portfolio, in which you can interact with web-forms to document your learning activities. • As it is a secure system, you require a login consisting of a username and password. • The login details are not the same as for your university. So remember to record these details somewhere secure.

  4. Your username • Your username for Profile will be your email address. • Make sure that the person at your university responsible for setting up your Profile account has your correct email details. • If you are unsure who that person is, email profile@uwe.ac.uk with details of your course.

  5. Your password • Your password will be sent to your email account once you have activated your Profile account. • The rest of this tutorial explains how to obtain a password and access your e-portfolio. • Please note that the password is in the form of two words separated by a hyphen (-). Make sure you include the hyphen when entering your account. • An example of a password is happy-ear

  6. Activating your Profile account • When your Administrator enters your email address in the Profile database, you will receive an automated email giving you instructions how to activate your account and obtain a password. • Because the email has been generated automatically, it may be labelled as [Spam] or look like spam but do not delete this email. • Follow the instructions given in the email. An example given in next slide.

  7. New User email To: Sam Smith • The email you receive will look something like this. Follow the instructions. • Click on the link on the email to go to the Profile website: www.profile.ac.uk Dear Sam, student

  8. Profile login page • Type in your email address and press enter on your keyboard. sam.smith@hotmail.com

  9. Registering with Profile • The first time you enter your username (ie email address), the following screen will appear.

  10. Registering with Profile cont’d This is part of the password self-management system that allows you to generate a brand new password if you ever forget your password. My pet’s name poodles Give a visible reminder of the ‘hidden’ word; in this case your pet’s name. Enter some ‘secret’ information (eg your mother’s maiden name or pet’s name) in the Hidden word field. Then, click E-mail my password

  11. Password is emailed to you. • When this is done, Profile will send your password to your email address. • In this case the password is shiny-door. • Go back into your email account and there will be another email for you from Profile, containing your password. • The email will look something like this.

  12. Now you can log in … • Go back to www.profile.ac.uk and type in your username (ie email) and press return sam.smith@hotmail.com

  13. Enter your password .. • Enter your password; in this example, it is shiny-door (in reality the password will appear as **********) shiny-door • When you press Enter, you will be taken to your e-portfolio.
