2. The NCAA Eligibility Center • Formerly the NCAA Clearinghouse • Certifies academic and amateur credentials for all students seeking to play Division I or Division II sports • NOT a guarantee of college admission • You still must meet each college’s individual entrance requirements • You still must apply to the school and be accepted

3. New Rules for Class of 2016 • Minimum core course GPA of 2.3 • Change in GPA/test score sliding scale • 10 courses MUST be completed before the beginning of senior year

4. New Rules for Class of 2016 • Full Qualifier – can compete, practice, and receive aid • Academic Redshirt – can practice and receive aid • Nonqualifier – no aid, practice, or competition

5. Division I Core Course Requirementfor Full Qualifiers & Academic Redshirts • 4 years of English • 3 years of math – Algebra I or higher • 2 years of science • 1 additional year of English, math, or science • 2 years of social science • 4 additional years of courses in English, math, social science, foreign language • 2 years of foreign language and Chemistry are STRONGLY recommended to ensure individual college admissions

6. With those 16 Core Classes, to be a FULL Qualifier . . . • You must earn a combined SAT score or ACT score that matches your GPA in your core courses • Math & Verbal ONLY • Sliding scale • As your GPA increases, your required SAT/ACT score decreases and vice versa

7. Core Course Progression Rule for FULL Qualifiers • Must complete 10 core courses before the senior year • Of those ten, seven must be in English, math, and science. • On the first day of the senior year, those classes are “locked in” • NO REPEATS!!

8. With those 16 Core Classes, to be an Academic Redshirt . . . • You must earn a combined SAT score or ACT score that matches your GPA in your core courses • Math & Verbal ONLY • Sliding scale • As your GPA increases, your required SAT/ACT score decreases and vice versa

9. Academic Redshirts • If . . . • The athlete has completed 16 core academic subjects, • And, the athlete meets the minimum SAT/ACT score for his core course GPA • And, the athlete graduates from high school • Then . . . • The athlete may get an athletic scholarship for the first year, • And, may practice for the first term. • The athlete may continue practice as long as he is academically eligible in college

10. Division II Requirements - NEW • 3 years English • 2 years math – Algebra I or higher • 2 years science • 3 additional years English, math, or science • 2 years of social science • 4 years additional courses from English, math, science, or foreign language

11. Additional Division II Requirements • NO SLIDING SCALE • Minimum combined SAT (math & verbal only) of 820 • OR a sum ACT score of 68 • AND a 2.0 GPA

12. Early Academic Certification • Division I • Minimum SAT of 900 and a GPA of 3.0 in 14 core courses • 3 English • 2 math • 2 science • 2 additional in English, math, or science • 5 additional core courses • Division II • Minimum SAT of 1000 and a GPA of 3.0 in 14 core courses • 3 English • 2 math • 2 science • 5 additional core courses

13. Division III Requirements • Because Division III does not award scholarships, you do not need to register with the clearinghouse • BUT, play it safe! • Register so that your paperwork is on file and all opportunities are open to you!!

14. Core Courses • Academic courses in English, math, science, social science, foreign language ONLY • NO physical education, computer science, health, arts, or music • Courses must be College Prep level • NO “Focus” or Standard Level courses • Ds count! • All courses must be on the APPROVED COURSE LIST

15. Independent Study Courses • Will be accepted IF • The course meets core-course requirements • The course has prior approval from counselor and administrator • The course goes on the high school transcript

16. College Courses • Accepted IF courses are accepted and awarded credit by WHS • Must be on the transcript • Do not have to be classes on our approved course list

17. Courses Taken Over Two Years • Algebra 1A and Algebra 1B • TOGETHER count as one year of math

18. Additional Requirements • Graduate from high school • All courses must be on the transcript by graduation day

19. Test Scores & Grades • NCAA will “mix and match” SAT scores • Test scores MUST come directly from the testing company • If you repeat a course, the NCAA will use the higher grade • No extra points for honors courses • 8th grade courses will be used IF AND ONLY IF, the high school issued credit and a grade and it is on the transcript

20. Disabilities • Document • Copy of professional diagnosis • Copy of IEP/504 plan • Testing may not be more than 3 years old • Allows you to take English B level courses within the special education department • +3 Rule ANY OTHER WAIVERS ARE INITIATED BY THE UNIVERSITY

21. Registering with the Eligibility Center • Register in the Spring of your sophomore year of high school • Go to http://ncaaeligibilitycenter.org • Create an account • WHS Code is 053503 • Complete registration • Complete amateurism certification • Complete domestic student release form • SUBMIT!!

23. Transcripts • Fill out a transcript request and an NCAA release with Mrs. Solare in the counseling office • The registrar will send an unofficial transcript • Transcripts MUST be sent directly from the school • The NCAA will request final transcripts upon graduation

24. Talk to Your Coach • Be proactive • Video tapes • Tell coach which schools interest you!

25. Social Media • BE VERY CAREFUL!!! • Nothing is private once posted to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. • Colleges check • Coaches check CHOOSE WISELY!!

26. Final Message  These are the minimum requirements. The more rigorous your course schedule and the better your grades, the more opportunities will be available to you!
