The Purpose of the Child Behavior Rating Scale • Measure children’s behavior with other adults and children in a classroom setting • The Domains • Approaches to Learning • Self-Regulation • Social-Emotional Development • The Scale is • demonstrated to be strongly predictive of reading and math achievement in elementary grades • validated in a wide range of cultural contexts Oregon Kindergarten Assessment Fall 2013

  3. When should it be filled out? • Give children time to settle in. It is highly recommended to complete the scale in the last three weeks of the six week assessment window. • The scale is not a direct assessment, it can be completed by the teacher outside of classroom time. Approaches to Learning: Child Behavior Rating Scale • 15 Items • Teacher responds to each item by circling numbers on a 1-5 scale, based on observation of individual students during regular classroom routines and activities • The scale: 1-The child neverexhibits the behavior described by the item. 2-The child rarelyexhibits the behavior described by the item. 3-The child sometimes exhibits the behavior described by the item. 4-The child frequently or usuallyexhibits the behavior described by the item. 5-The child always exhibits the behavior described by the item.
