  1. 5 Stages of Tooth Decay Failure to maintain oral hygiene leads to decaying and damaged teeth. If you don’t get timely tooth decay treatment, those ugly cavities may turn into serious complications you will end up losing your teeth. Let’s discuss the different stages of tooth decay to know what should be done and when. 1.Mineral loss: In this stage, the upper hardest surface of your tooth wears off because of excessive bacterial growth inside the mouth. The early stage tooth decay looks like a clearly visible white spot. 2.Enamel loss: When the demineralization process goes worse it results in enamel loss which is one of the first tooth decay symptoms. You will notice small holes are starting to be visible on the surface. 3.Sensitivity: The increased sensitivity is when you reach the third stage of decay which occurs by dentin loss. Dentin lies under the enamel and is connected to tooth nerves.Dentin loss results in increased sensitivity to hot and cold.

  2. 4.Damaged pulp: The innermost part of your teeth is called the Pulp. When it gets infected you are at the serious stage of decay and must get rid of the germs otherwise there will be swollen gums and excruciating pain. 5.Advanced tooth decay: In case you are ignoring the pulp decay, the situation would get worst and there will be puss filled pockets at the advanced stage. It is known as Abscess. When you reach this stage, the infection may affect the nearby teeth along with your jaw bone and even lymph nodes. Regardless of your age, the decay stages are almost similar for everyone. Although, toddler tooth decay happens at a faster rate due to the thin layer of protective enamel on their teeth. Tooth decay should be noticed and treated at the earliest stage possible. To get more guidance on the treatment and complexity of wisdom tooth decay connect with Dr. Heidary Family Dentistry which is the best family clinic in Burlington.
