  1. Point Comfort Ambient Air Monitoring Systems (FTIR and SUMMA)

  2. FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer) • Continuously monitors the ambient air for seven compounds (VCM, EDC, 1, 3 Butadiene, Ethylene, Benzene, Hydrogen Chloride, and Ethylene Oxide). • Alerts Environmental On-call pager and Shift Safety pager should any of the seven compounds be detected in the ambient air exceeding the 5-minute and/or 30-minute alarm levels. Pager indicates a different code for each alarm level (5-minute alarm level shows ‘333333333’ on the pager and the 30-minute alarm level shows ‘123456789’ on the pager). • FTIR calls the SUMMA Computer located at the FPC-TX EHS Building and activates the PC Plant Site and School Site SUMMA Canisters to sample for 1-hour.

  3. SUMMA Canister System • 3 SUMMA canister sampling sites are located in Pt. Comfort, Texas (City Hall, City Park, and School Sites) and 1 SUMMA canister sampling site is located adjacent to the PC Plant Administration Building (PC Plant Site). • City Hall, City Park, and School SUMMA canister sampling sites sample every 6 days for 24-hours. • PC Plant SUMMA canister sampling site samples every other day for 24-hours. • Canisters are sent to a third-party independent laboratory for analysis. • Canisters are analyzed for VCM, EDC, 1, 3 Butadiene, Ethylene, and Benzene.
