  2. turning it on Below are four fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) brain scans obtained during a visual memory task. The results of the experiment were reported in November 2000 by Mark D'Esposito and CharanRanganath of the University of California, Berkeley, at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience http://berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2000/11/20_mri.html

  3. Brain language centers http://www.sciencephoto.com/media/307181/enlarge Caption: Left/right handedness & language in brain. Colour Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan of areas of the brain active in word recognition. The subjects are thinking of verbs related to heard nouns. A right-handed subject's brain is at top; left-handed at bottom. The left-side of the brain is at left; right-side at right. Brain activity is coloured red/yellow. In a right-handed subject (top) the left-side of the brain is active largely in the frontal region, including the temporal and parietal areas. In a left-handed subject (bottom), the right-side of the brain is activated in those same areas. PET scanning detects blood flow.
