  1. Pros and Cons Pros and Cons WordPress Gutenberg Editor What is Gutenberg? Gutenberg is a WordPress’ new block editor. It is named on Johannes Gutenberg, who invented a printing press with movable type more than 500 years ago. There is lot of things required in current visual editor to utilize shortcodes and HTML to make things work. Some welcome it with happiness, while others are critical. There is also a large group of WordPress users who don’t even understand what’s going on. Here, we’ll introduce some pros and cons of new Wordpress block editor. Pros of Gutenberg WordPress Editor Here are a few pros we see with the current Gutenberg Editor. It create a tighter integration between core Wordpress developer, theme developers, plugins, and the editor.

  2. It provide newer Medium style editing experience, they are most likely going to love the WordPress Gutenberg editor. Gutenberg helps to create a less distracting experience with more screen space. Blocks are fun to use and the new alignment options are a step forward for larger resolution screens and full-width templated and responsive sites. It make Wordpress website design really easy even for beginners. Gutenberg still allows us to use the old TinyMCE editor. It’s included in its own block, called “Classic”. We only need to click the + button that pops up all the blocks and select the Classic block. Complete Gutenberg is mobile-friendly. With this Block Editor, You can smoothly edit your pages or posts. Frankly, It is not limited to the pages you create. Gutenberg is a developer-friendly redesign of WordPress. From now on, plugin developers don’t have to rely on shortcodes but can create their own blocks that users can add to their posts right from the visual editor. Each Gutenberg block has its own settings. We can switch back and forth between the document’s and block’s settings using a horizontal accordion with tabs called “Document” and “Block”. It allow us to configure the font size, text styles, and the color settings of each paragraph. Cons of Gutenberg WordPress Editor And here are a few cons we see in the current Gutenberg editor. Remember, it is still in the testing phase, so a lot of these things will probably be fixed or added. It is currently missing Markdown support. The shortcuts are no more functional in the WordPress Editor. If suppose, you ever want to change the heading case or turn the paragraph into H2 or H3 heading. There, you need to shift the block type. That (Alt + Shift + 2 (Ctrl + Option + 2 on Mac)) old combination won’t work. While we also listed it being easier to use for beginners, we can also see this as being harder for some to learn. Gutenberg does now support meta boxes. We mentioned mobile-friendliness earlier as a positive, Even though the editor can be used to create a responsive design, but it doesn’t support responsive columns yet. This should be a temporary issue, as more features are added to it on a daily basis. Gutenberg editor might be not as accessible as you might think, especially for developers. Most Developers heavily rely on APIs and similar stuff to build themes and plugins. Although, at the time of writing, APIs are still in development. The current version of Gutenberg is suffering from lots of compatibility issues. These Issues may be serious matter for several WordPress users.

  3. Gutenberg is still in progressive mode. It has lots to offer but requires a lot of work to be ready for the WordPress ecosystem. For you as a user, we suggest waiting for a stable release before trying it out. Or heavily rely on the editor, we would recommend trying it out first. If everything feels right, you can go forward with the update. Otherwise, you can wait for a better release later on If you are a business hire an Wordpress development company that work on your hand to design business website according to your business needs.
