  1. Adaptations of Animals to Their Environmentor why don’t penguins’ feet freeze?

  2. The Arctic Fox lives in a very cold climate. Write down three ways in which it is adapted to its environment. Arctic Fox Alopex lagopus

  3. The Fennec Fox lives in a very hot climate. Write down three ways in which it is adapted to live in hot conditions. Fennec fox Vulpes zerda

  4. The Arctic Fox has: • Thick fur coat to trap lots of air. Air is poor conductor of heat therefore acts as a good insulator. 2. Thick layer of fat under the skin – blubber. Fat is a good insulator. It is also a good energy store. 3. Small ears. Heat is easily lost through the thin skin surface of the ears. The smaller the ears the less heat lost through them. 4. Small body surface area to volume ratio to help them to hold on to their body heat.World Builders: Limits to Animal Size -- Size to Volume Ratio

  5. The Fennec Fox has: 1. Thin fur coat which allows it to lose heat more quickly. 2. Large ears – large surface area to radiate out heat and good for detecting prey and avoiding predators. 3. Very thin layer of fat under the skin surface. 4. Large surface area to volume ratio so that it can lose more heat through the skin surface.
