  2. What is pre-assessment? • Tools used to measure what students have mastered prior to instruction

  3. Why pre-assess? • To find out: • What students know about the topic • What students are interested in • How students best process information

  4. Formative Assessments • Part of instruction process • Used to adjust teaching and learning • Help to determine next step • Occurs during instruction

  5. Summative Assessments • Used to gauge student learning at a particular time • Occurs after instruction

  6. Formal Assessments • Interest surveys • Entry and Exit Tickets • Results from test or quiz • Student conferences

  7. Informal Assessments • Observations • Asking questions • Four Corners • Line ‘em Up • Noting patterns
