  1. Miracles and Spiritual Gifts Today? What does the Bible say about Mark 16:17-20

What was the Purpose of Miracles & Spiritual Gifts in the New Testament? • Jesus performed miracles to prove that He is God’s Son (John 4:48; 5:36; 20:30-31; Acts 2:22) • The apostles were empowered to perform miracles to prove that they were apostles and that they spoke God’s word (2 Corinthians 2:12; Mark 16:20; Hebrews 2:2-4; Acts 1:4-8; 2:4-14)

  3. Spiritual Gifts & Miraculous Abilities Were Imparted in Two Ways • Through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2; 10:44-46; 11:15-17) • By the laying on of the apostles’ hands (Acts 8:6-18; 6:5-6; 19:16; Romans 1:11; 2 Tim. 1:6)

  4. The Bible says that Spiritual Gifts would “Fail” and “Cease” • This fact is declared in 1 Corinthians 13:8 (cf. Ephesians 2:5; Hebrews 10:1-12) • Spiritual gifts would cease when “that which is perfect” had come (1 Corinthians 13:8-13) • “That which is perfect” is the completed revelation of God’s word (James 1:25; Jude 3) • It cannot refer to heaven here (Rom. 8:24; Heb. 1:1)

  5. Undeniable Miracles are NOT Being Performed Today • New Testament miracles were undeniable (Acts 2:22; 4:16) • Fake miracles are a tool used by Satan to deceive those who do not love the truth (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12; Mark 13:22)
