Welcome! • Why you are here: • The strategy for RarePlanet needs to address a number of complex and interrelated issues • We need a team that helps shape, direct, and monitor the development of RarePlanet.org to be at the center of a global network for conservationists • What is expected of you: • Identify and prioritize key policy and process requirements to ensure that RarePlanet.org and its constituent communities are engaged and supported • Review and recommend draft policies, strategies, and engagement plans • What you should expect from us (Patti and Brett) • To present for review only those topics that impact all of the Rare community • To prepare diligently for meetings, set expectations for outcomes, and to follow up

  3. Today’s Agenda • Membership • Agree on Rare members • Determine if we want to include nonRare champions at outset • Operating norms • Scope of strategy addressed by this group • Current topics needing your input • Process for tracking new features in RarePlanet.org

Operating Norms • Real-time meetings: • Bi-weekly, 1 hour • Agendas posted to RarePlanet beforehand • Use Elluminate for note taking and brainstorming • Using the RarePlanet group: • Please comment on agenda topics before meeting • Be prepared to act according to agenda: • Make recommendation • Provide input and feedback • Provide other information, knowledge, or insights as needed

Starting List of Topics • The RarePlanet platform development , enhancement , and rollout process – See Topic in RarePlanet forum • RarePlanet Governance, Policies, Processes, and Roles and Responsibilities – Proposed for discussion at next meeting • Review engagement/stimulation strategies for adoption of RarePlanet • Identifying, chartering, and reviewing activities of communities of practice*** • Extension of RarePlanets’s global communities to include partners, conservation experts, the general public of conservation enthusiasts and activists, and other specialist communities • Process for working with local partners and guidelines for transparency • Reviewing opportunities for RarePlanet engagement or extension
