  1. Study of ambient air particulates pollutants near Taichung airport sampling site in central Taiwan Guor-Cheng Fang, Yuh-Shen Wu, Wen-Jhy Lee, Te-Yen Chou, I-Chen Lin Student : Shen-Feng Chang Advisor :Yi-Chyun Hsu Journal of Hazardous Materials 144 (2007) 492–498

  2. Introduction • Experimental • Results and discussion • Conclusion

  3. Introduction • Suspended particle pollution has become a critical problem in Taiwan. Emissions of air pollutants in Asia have been increasing drastically in past decade. • Particulate matter (PM) has been given much attention in recent decades due to its potential adverse health impact and the subsequent need to have a better control or regulate these pollutants.

  4. Experimental (1) Fig. 1. The sampling positions and relative location of this study.

  5. Experimental (2) • Analytical method • Chemical analysis • Quality control • Reproducibility test • Detection limit

  6. Results and discussion • Table 1 shows the sampling information of total suspended particulate, coarse and fine particulate concentrations and meteorological conditions such as temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure and prevalent wind direction at Taichung airport (TA) sampling site during September to December of 2005.

  7. Fig. 2. Average percentage of metallic elements in various particle size (TSP, coarse, fine) at TA (airport) sampling site.

  8. Fig. 3. Average percentage of ionic species in various particle size (TSP, coarse, fine) at TA (airport) sampling site.

  9. Conclusion • As for the metallic concentrations in TSP, coarse and fine particulates, the metallic elements of Fe and Mg were the main metallic elements at TA sampling site. • The results obtained in this study indicated that the metallic elements Fe, Mg and Zn occupied about 60 - 80% average metallic concentrations percentage out of the total metallic elements around traffic, Harbor and airport in central Taiwan.
