History • Software meeting at RAL (November 2004), Gidon Moont described IC work on a GRID portal and collected requirements from MICE. • 2005 – First version of portal goes “live”, I obtained a certificate and recently joined the dteam VO to allow test jobs on the LCG. • Following slides show process of preparing and submitting a G4MICE job (based on the example shown at the LBNL collaboration meeting) and retrieving the results. • Statically linked executables, compiled from the release mice-1-0 were used.

How to run a G4MICE job • Register, receive certificate and join VO. • Log on to portal and setup proxy certificate. • Prepare job (executable plus any other files). • Upload files to portal. • Select files to be submitted, and output files to be retrieved then launch job. • Monitor status of job. • Retrieve output (stdout, stderr and other nominated files). • Be impressed by results...

  6. What is next? • Yagmur and I will work with Gidon to continue testing of the portal and MICE applications. • Before serious productions can be started, we need a MICE VO (the dteam one I’m on is only for development and testing) • Breaking news – a MICE VO has just been set up!!! Paul Kyberd and I will be testing it out in the coming weeks... • Need to learn more about more advanced job control (random number seeds, data storage, etc...) • Hope to be able to start using the GRID for serious MICE work soon, so contact your local GRID person and get registered!
