  3. ANSI Committee on Education (COE) - Overview • The ANSI Committee on Education oversees all ANSI initiatives related to standards and conformity assessment education and outreach • Goal is to promote greater awareness of standards in education • Committee meets twice a year in person

  4. COE Mission • Support education-related aspects of U.S. Standards Strategy • Encourage university-based standards education & develop long-term strategy for university faculty outreach • Raise awareness among university faculty • Develop materials to integrate into coursework • Provide strategic direction on education curriculum • Identify target audiences and learning objectives • Oversee web-based and e-learning training initiatives • Identify funding mechanisms to support education initiatives

  5. COE Organizational Structure • Officers • Chair • Vice Chair • ANSI Staff Liaison • Membership • Representatives of all ANSI members • Invited guests (approved by the Chairman of the Board of Directors)

  6. Some Recent COE Activities • www.StandardsLearn.org • A free and publicly available resource providing ANSI-developed educational content to a broad audience. Also offers a database of standards education resources provided by members of academic institutions. • 797 students have taken “Why Standards Matter” • 306 students have taken “US Standards System – Today and Tomorrow”

  7. Some Recent COE Activities • Case Studies • Virginia Class Submarines (DoD) • Fire Safety and ASTME2187 • Canadian Standards Association (CSA): Ensuring Quality Drinking Water • N42 Series of Radiation Detection Standard (DHS, NIST & IEEE)

  8. Some Recent COE Activities • University Outreach Pilot Project • 66 schools have participated • 1,434 students in classes have been engaged • 391 standards have been provided

  9. Some Recent COE Activities • Workshops • Two recent standards-education workshops at NIST • Promoting Education About Standardization in North America (May 2009) • Global Perspectives and Strategies for Education about Standardization Workshop (Feb 2008)
