  3. Preamble to the University Act (1911) Whereas of the States of the Commonwealth Western Australia alone is unprovided with a University. And whereas it is desirable that provision should be made for further instruction in those practical arts and liberal studies which are needed to advance the prosperity and welfare of the people. And whereas it is desirable that special encouragement and assistance should be afforded those who may be hindered in the acquisition of sound knowledge and useful learning by lack of opportunity or means …

  6. Ambition In 2012 UWA achieved its goal to be counted in the top 100 universities in the world. • It is currently ranked 96 according to the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) UWA aims to be counted among the top 50 universities in the world by 2050

Performance Australia’s foremost independent university rating body, The 2013 Good Universities Guide, gives UWA five stars on the key performance measures of: • Positive Graduate Outcomes  • Graduate Starting Salaries  • Research Intensivity • Research Grants  • Student Demand 

  17. Issues for 2013 The University of Western Australia celebrates its Centenary. Staff are invited to contribute to discussions about UWA’s future: http://www.staff.uwa.edu.au/uwa-futures Centum, symbolised by the number 100, is UWA’s informal mascot for 2013 and intended to engage interest and inspire participation by staff, students and visitors, who can take their own photos or design their own Centum.
