  1. Manchester School of Samba Manchester Day Parade 2010 Manchester School of Samba in collaboration with Bold Art featuring North-West Gegantés

  2. Overview and aims • Our vision for the Manchester Day Parade (MDP) was to construct a street show that incorporated the Manchester Day Parade’s theme of ‘Out of this World’ with our own Brazilian Carnival styles. Our elemental theme of ‘fire’ incorporated a mythical Phoenix, drummers, dancers, brass players and banner carriers, and a giant puppet of a Brazilian Carioca, all dressed in flame coloured costumes.

  3. Work in progress… Whilst ‘out of this world’, we also wanted the Phoenix to embody the spirit of Manchester and celebrate all that is great about our city – a city that is always reinventing itself.

  4. In the workshop It was our aim to build on our existing strengths, whilst also creating new ideas, drawing inspiration from outside, and encouraging more involvement of samba school members and the general community. We consider that we have achieved this.
