The Seven Years War • It started in 1754 and finished in 1763 • The treaty was made to keep the French and British apart but the native Americans had different plans. • 18thof September 1763, the treaty was signed.
The English and the French battled for colonial domination in North America, the Caribbean, and in India.
It was that debt that caused the escalation of tensions leading to the Revolutionary War. • The French and Indian War, as it was referred to in the colonies, was the beginning of open hostilities between the colonies and Gr. Britain.
Despite sincere petitions from the royal governors, George II was suspicious of the intentions of the colonial governments and declined their offer. This one
The Role of George Washington at the beginning of the war. • George Washington began his military experience in the French and Indian War and became a soldier. • In 1753, George Washington and a small group of men were dispatched into the disputed territory by Virginia lieutenant governor Robert Dinwiddie.
He was a member of the Ohio Company, as were Washington and his brother Lawrence. • Their labors were interrupted by a much larger French contingent, which chased off the British and completed the fortification, naming it Fort Duquesne.
Why they started fighting in the new world. • The French and the British started fighting in the New World because of several reasons:1. Long-term competition and wars in Europe2. Competition over control of the oceans3. Competition over wealth in the New World. • The last reason listed is the main reason why the French and British started fighting in the New World. They both wanted to dominate the continent and the resources available to them.
