  4. Brief Introduction • Total length: 29Km • Estimate flow of vehicle : 15000 car/ day • Hong Kong destination: Shan Shek Wan, Lantau • Macau destination: Wang Kam Island

  5. Common Advantages • Provide job opportunities • Shorten time travel between Hong Kong and Macau/ West PRD • Enhance competitiveness of the PRD region to the world

  6. Adv. To Macau & PRD • Speed up the development of light industries in west PRD (geographical potential) • Lower down the cost for transporting the goods to HK from West PRD • Bring more tourists to Macau (Large entertainment centers and casinos) (visit Macau after trip in HK / Zhuhai people go to HK through Macau)

Advantages to HK • Provide more chances to HK merchants investing in west PRD • Attract tourist from Macau and west PRD (Disneyland) • Bring HK to become a world-class logistic center  Logistic center near HK Airport • Step stone for FI to invest in west PRD through HK  establish headquarters in HK • Relief traffic congestions in the present boarder checkpoint during peak period

Common Disadvantages • Environmental pollution to Pearl River • Government do not enthusiastic on the project  shipment can solve the goods transportation (e.g. HK official research  not necessary before 2020) • How many people will actually use the bridge? Fees should be defined at what levels?

To Macau & PRD • East PRD would lost its competitiveness due to high running cost  factory move • HK become Logistic center  Airports and container terminals present in Macau and PRD are useless?? • Gamblers in Macau would not spent their money in Macau? • Zhuhai highly concern about City planning  lots of factory move to west PRD is not good for them (experiences from east PRD)

  10. Disadvantages To HK • Environmental pollution to North Lantau • Negative feedbacks from various corporations and tycoons (e.g. Whampoa, Y.T. Fok)  obstacles for government making decision • Long term investment  Who will bare the risk? How to have a balance income?

  11. Conclusion • Bridge benefits both west PRD, Macau and HK in terms of human flow (tourism) • Major obstacle is the political problem  Central government decision
