  1. Jan. 9, 2007Comparative Aspects of Magnetic Reconnection

  2. Welcome • Purpose: • To facilitate interaction among colleagues in space science in the New England Area (UNH, SAO/CfA, BU, MIT, Hanscom/AFRL, Haystack, Dartmouth ) • To leverage these interactions for initiating new, cross-disciplinary and far-reaching projects • Meetings: • Monthly meetings (first wed each month) • Introductions (Affiliation/Interest)

  3. Today’s Topic • A new perspective on magnetic reconnection and universal processes by comparing aspects of the magnetosphere with the Sun and Corona • Examples: • Plasmoids - CMEs (later today: Penny Wu) • Substorms - Flares (later today: Spence) • A paper (Siscoe) or series of papers on the topic • If a series of topics, we should start to compile an author and topic list • suggestions for where we might try to publish? • Come back to these issues at the end
