  3. Library Software that Can Do This • Aleph (ExLibris) • Evergreen • Koha

  4. How to Intercept Output to the Printer • Alphatronics Virtual Port Monitor ($345 site license) • alphatronics.net/AVPMon.html • Install on each PC • Create a virtual port • Send print job to a script • "Also send print job to printer?"

  5. Also on Each PC: Perl & TCL • Perl script • Looks at each print job • Passes barcode to TCL script • Saves price from TCL script • Calculates and prints total & footer • TCL Script • Given barcode, looks up price

  6. Issues • Can't get price for SearchOhio items (could make one up) • Items with no price • Have to wait at the end (staff don't always) • It still misses some items • Feature going away in next Millennium release

  8. Technical Complications • Print monitor calls batch file • Batch file calls VBS script • VBS script calls Perl script • Print monitor creates extra files • Logon script clears extra files

  9. DOSPrint.exe • For USB printers • Because Alphatronics VPM doesn't output to USB printers
