  7. HARVARD WON THE IVY LEAGUE "WASTE MINIMIZATION" category! • We placed 5th of 178 in gross tonnage of recyclables. • We placed 11th of 111 in paper recycling per capita. • Despite a slow start, we beat Yale in everything but corrugated cardboard!

  8. Food Waste AuditOctober 9-13, 2006 • Data collected for lunch • Revealed that average student leaves approximately 100 lbs of uneaten food on plate over course of school year • But this average is down 7.5% from last year!

  9. Dishware Return: Don’t Dis the Dish Opportunity Cost Environmental Cost EMBODIED ENERGY:Throwing away a 300g ceramic mug is like running a HOT SHOWER for 10 minutes without getting in! A WEIGHTY ISSUE: 1 300g ceramic mug ≈ 150 foam cups in weight. RE-USE: That dish can serve 1000s more meals! Why cause more to be manufactured?

  10. Electricity and Heating Lowell House: • Please check that all windows and storm windows are closed tightly. Lock windows to minimize drafts. • Remove clothes, books and furniture from around radiators to allow air to circulate. • To maximize heat, turn the control knob counter-clockwise until the red button as aligned with the mark on the body of the control. Set the gauge on the snowflake symbol when you know your room will be unoccupied for 2 or more days. • Take advantage of curtains, drapes and blinds to keep the cold out and heat in by closing them at night. Bringing out the big guns! Led to a 10 degree decrease in Lowell

  11. Sustainability Pledge Pfoho was the house with the highest pledge rate at 64%! 5 houses win wind energy by reaching the 50% pledge rate!
