  1. White Metals Share in Gold's Recent Gains says Pan American Metals of Miami (1888PressRelease) Silver, platinum and palladium also showing strong gains. MIAMI, FL - While gold's rapid recovery and the European debt crisis dominate the headlines, it is interesting to note what is happening to the white metals. It is not only gold that has seen a significant gain in price over the last two days. Silver has accompanied gold, sharing in its safe-haven status and also reaching a one-month high. What is possibly less anticipated is that platinum and palladium are also showing strong gains. Their heavy dependence on the strength of the industrial sector would normally mean that demand for these metals should fall off in times of economic turmoil. However, there has been an increase in demand from the emerging economies where the market for new cars has mushroomed, spurring demand for the platinum group metals, which are used in the manufacture of catalytic converters. "We have seen marked gains in all four precious metals over the last two days," says Bill Hionas of Pan American Metals of Miami. "Platinum is currently trading around $1590 and palladium at $647." Platinum has been trading well over a hundred dollars below gold for a while now, an unusual situation for the 'king' of metals. Palladium is looking at a possible shortage over the next two years while also seeing increased demand. Both metals have intrinsic value due to their beauty, rarity and functionality and are therefore of interest to investors. There has been a marked increase in investment demand for these metals over the last decade.
