  1. Jessica Scheck- Photo Essay Topic: Ted Constant Convocation Center 10-Year Celebration

  2. In 1999 when the Ted Constant Convocation Center first started being built, a Virginia Beach Resident named Theodore F. Constant donated $5 million. This prompted James V. Koch, the University President of the time, to name the center after him. Inside is a stone portrait of Ted Constant and a short description of his contributions.

  3. To celebrate the 10-year anniversary, the Ted Constant Convocation Center has been decorated with a new banner, showcasing notable music artists and comedy acts that have performed in the center.

  4. The banner spans the entire front of the building, in the colors of Old Dominion University.

  5. The Ted contains Old Dominion University’s Basketball Arena, which also is used as a stage for music acts and as a large venue for University held events. The center is recorded to be 215,000 sq. feet in size and contains a total 8,181 seats in the arena.

  6. The inside front lobby contains pieces of history about the University, including pictures that honor past graduates that have attended the Olympics and have made history in different sports.

  7. The Ted center also serves as a monument for visitors and attending students, as it sits a block in front of Monarch Way, a restaurant-filled street.

  8. As the University celebrates the Ted for its 10 years of use, visitors, faculty and students look towards the coming of March Madness where they can watch the excitement of ODU athletics at their best.
