  1. Ecologicalcataract surgery T. Okabe; S. Kobayakawa; T. Tochikubo We all are no financial interest.

  2. We waste a lot of medical supplies, also too much electricity. We need to think about our cataract surgery in the view point of ecology.

  3. Methods • Save power; Setting up at the lowest level for the illumination of the microscope lamp (2300 lx). • Surgical microscope, OMS-800 (Topcon, Japan) was used. • Save energy; Turn off the ceiling light, using the indirect lighting. • Overall case time, phaco time (total nucleus emulsification time), and complications were compared to a similar size group of cataract cases that were performed with a conventional illumination of the microscope lamp (above 17000 lx).

  4. Results Therewere no significant difference between two groups No patients complained the dazzle for the microscope lamp in the lowest illumination group.

  5. Conclusions • Cataract surgery can safely be performed under the lowest level for the illumination of the microscope • Cataract surgery can be performed in the lower illumination more than imaged.
