  4. Rowena’s story • RN from Philippines • Developed advanced cancer/multiple mets • Transferred from hospice to care home where husband worked. • Arrangements made for husband to have a room there so he could be at her side.

  7. Family support • Mother & sister travelled to UK • Parish priest, Hospice, care home worked together to arrange visas • Regular contact with Dad through SKYPE • Philippino staff translated for family

  8. Died Aug 2011 • After visit from priest died peacefully • Staff remarked ‘she was lifted up to heaven on a cushion of love’ • Priest returned to say prayers with Filipino community and staff • Community stayed with her overnight so she was not alone • Body embalmed and returned to care home

  10. Funeral • Funeral party walked through streets to church • ipod played traditional Filipino music • Friends and family read out poems & prayers she had chosen & written • Family at home joined funeral mass via SKYPE
