  1. SPUNTI DI RIFLESSIONE SUI MATERIALI DI STUDIO ASSEGNATI DHG - Geography: history of: (what does it mean?) ‘[…] resist essentialist specification’ (p.295) – what’s the meaning of this? ‘[…] in fact, geographical knowledge and practice has been intimately intertwined with a host of enterprises: […]’ (p. 295) – can you explain, also using some examples, what this sentence implies. DHG - Geography: (some possible questions): […] ‘The idea that there is some eternal metaphysical core to geography independent of circumstances will simply have to go’ (Livingston, 1992, p. 28)? (p. 287). Which concept(s) does the author want to sustain by citing this statement. Which way of doing geography does Darby want to contest and which one does he want to support by the affirmation ‘We can look at a picture as a whole […] and it is as a whole that it leaves an impression upon us; we can however read only line by line’ (p. 288). Which consequences did the issue raised by Darby had for human geography once it was considered in a problematic way? The author affirms that ‘there is a Geography of Geography’ (p. 289) what does he mean by this? Which main points does the author underline talking about the separation of Human and Physical Geography. And… What’s the meaning of the author’s claim “physical geography, like ‘science’ more generally, is a social practice too, it has its own highly formalized rules, but it constantly traffics in meaning and interpretations”
