  1. Provided the original funds to prepare & respond to biological (i.e. smallpox/anthrax) & chemical attacks. • Assisted the department with preparedness planning for a public health emergency.

  2. Resulted in the development of the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) that within 24 hours may be deployed delivering 50 tons of medical supplies & medications to a Local Health Department (LHD) for treatment of the affected population.

  3. Increases the capacity of the county to respond to a public health emergency by locating Points of Dispensing (POD) sites that may be utilized in a public health emergency. - PODs may be used as mass clinics to dispense vaccines, provide mass prophylaxis, or for treatment.

  4. The Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) funded by a Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) grant. This program requires: • Hospital preparedness & training for a hospital response to a Public Health emergency. • The purchase of response equipment: Decontamination equipment, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs), protective suits, surge tents, & other equipment needed by hospitals to respond to an emergency.

  5. This program requires: • Training: Hospital Emergency Incident Command System (HEICS), Weapons of Mass Destruction, Decontamination, etc. • Participation in Table Top Exercises (TTXs) & Functional Exercises with Public Health.

  6. Requires: • A County Pandemic Influenza Response Plan • Pandemic Influenza training to create awareness of Pandemic Influenza • Continuity Planning to respond to a Pandemic Influenza incident
