  2. Today the online community is getting larger and larger because people want to connect or to be connected for different reasons. People think that being part of the online community makes them relevant and up to date and that is true. People realize that the easiest thing to be involved now for a greater scope is to be in social media whether from larger and more prominent social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr or Pinterest. Some people now engage more to new yet promising networking sites or apps like Google +, Edmodo, EverMe or Bebler.

  3. Truly social networking sites are now part of everyone’s lives but people need a retrospect to the premise of why social networking sites are created in the first place. Looking back, here are the reasons why social media is created and its uses.

  4. 1. Stay Connected This is the major reason why social networking sites are created is for people to stay connected. Friends and families may be far away but with the help of social media, it is easier to be updated through their real-time posts and statuses. 2. Extend the Community One thing also is it broadens people’s channels and communities. They gain access to different cultures, opinions, and classes. There are now greater understandings of what the world is and the problems and struggles different communities have. Social experiments and different causes are now widespread and being posted thus, creating a new perspective on people.

  5. 3. Know the News and Updates The news sometimes doesn’t report some information. It is a great world out there and often some unpopular events are not being reported. Some headlines too are not being highlighted through biased reporting; social networking sites are a great way to vent out issues that are not touched by mainstream media. 4. Be Amused In a lighter note, social networking sites are also outlets for saying puns and jokes. “Memes” are very popular nowadays at gives enjoyment to people. Social media can be a convention for people who have the same interest online. So people create pages and accounts to be connected sharing a common interest.

  6. 5. Share Your Thoughts As simple as it is, social networking sites are also great for sharing your thoughts on a larger scale. If you have an opinion or a cause that should be widely disseminated, social networking sites are there to help at a free cost. 6. Share Your Happenings This is also one of the primary goals of being in the online community, to share happenings. Sharing photos and videos are good in social networking sites. Building an image can be great too having this
