  1. The Angels of God Class 2: The Power and Authority of the Angels

  2. Note the link of elohim and angels Psalm 8:4-5 (RSV) 4 what is man that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man that thou dost care for him? • Yet thou hast made him little less than God (Elohim), and dost crown him with glory and honor. Psalm 8:5 (NKJV) 5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. Heb 2:7 (NKJV) 7 You have made him a little lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of Your hands.

  3. Psalm 97:7 7 Let all be put to shame who serve carved images, who boast of idols. Worship Him, all you gods(elohim). Hebrews 1:6 6 But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: "Let all the angels of God worship Him."

  4. Angels appear & speak for God Exodus 3:2-4 2 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn." 4 So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am."

  5. Exodus 3:5-6 5 Then He said, "Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground." 6 Moreover He said, "I am the God of your father-- the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

  6. Exodus 3:7-8 7 And the LORD said: "I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. 8 "So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

  7. Exodus 19:17-18 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.

  8. Exodus 20:1-2 1 And God spoke all these words, saying: 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Acts 7:38 38 "This is he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the Angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, the one who received the living oracles to give to us

  9. Judges 2:1-4 1 Then the Angel of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said: "I led you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers; and I said, 'I will never break My covenant with you. 2 'And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.' But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this? 3 "Therefore I also said, 'I will not drive them out before you; but they shall be thorns in your side, and their gods shall be a snare to you.'" 4 So it was, when the Angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voices and wept.

  10. Genesis 3:8-10 8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?" 10 So he said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself."

  11. Angels are limited Zechariah 1:12-13 12 Then the Angel of the LORD answered and said, "O LORD of hosts, how long will You not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which You were angry these seventy years?" 13 And the LORD answered the angelwho talked to me, with good and comforting words. Since they don’t know everything, at times they ask God questions about His plan

  12. Matthew 24:36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 1 Peter 1:12 To them (prophets) it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven-- things which angels desire to look into. Angels don’t know everything. They do inquire &try to understand. They probably don’t know whether or not we will be in the kingdom. God keeps life interesting and challenging for them.

  13. Some Angels are above others Joshua 5:14 So He said, "No, butas Commander of the army of the LORD I have now come." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant? Jude 1:9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" Angels have different rankings because God gives them jobs they can handle

  14. Daniel 10:13-14 13 "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. 14 "Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come." Humans can frustrate the work of angels. Be careful that we don’t frustrate our angel’s work!

  15. Psalm 89:5-7 (RSV) 5 Let the heavens praise thy wonders, O LORD, thy faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones! 6 For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD, 7 a God fearedin the council of the holy ones, great and terrible above all that are round about him? God does have a heavenly council made up of angels who greatly revere and respect Him

  16. 1 Kings 22:19-23 19 Then Micaiah said, "Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by, on His right hand and on His left. 20 "And the LORD said, 'Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?' So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. 21 "Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, and said, 'I will persuade him.' 22 "The LORD said to him, 'In what way?' So he said, 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And the LORD said, 'You shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.' 23 "Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you." Angels don’t make us good or bad. They simply influence our choices!

  17. Genesis 1:26-27 26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Imagine so many angels working together to make our world. It’s a wonderful privilege and responsibility to be in their image. Lk20:22-25 Whose image & inscription is it?

  18. 1 Corinthians 11:8-10 8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. 10 For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. Angels were given the authority to make decisions about our creation. They decided to make Eve for Adam.

  19. Imagine the discussions between angels to come up with a plan and then their unity in carrying it out together! Genesis 11:5-9 5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. 6 And the LORD said, "Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. 9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

  20. Exodus 23:20-23 20 "Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. 21 "Beware of Him and obey His voice; do not provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgressions; for My name is in Him. 22 "But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries. 23"For My Angel will go before you and bring you in to the Amorites and the Hittites and the Perizzites and the Canaanites and the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will cut them off. Angel had authority and power to forgive or not forgive sins! Don’t provoke your angel!

  21. 2 Kings 19:35 35 And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the LORD went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand;. (angels cause death of Sennacherib too in v. 37) Daniel 4:17 • 'This decision is by the decree of the watchers, and the sentence by the word of the holy ones Acts 12:22-23 • the people kept shouting, "The voice of a god and not of a man!" Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. Note the power of angels and their authority to make decisions. Angels listen to us and know our thoughts just like they did with Nebuchadnezzar. Be careful about taking God’s Glory, judging others, and speaking unkind words!

  22. Revelation 19:10 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "See that you do not do that!I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelation22:9 9 Then he said to me, "See that you do not do that. ForI am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God."

  23. Lessons for Us: • God has empowered the angels with His awesome power – respect them and cooperate with their work. • Let’s be inquisitive and thrilled about God’s work in the earth like angels. • Accept different rankings in life – it will be like that in the kingdom too. God assigns us jobs we can handle. • Let’s learn from the angels to suppress pride and selfishness so we can work in unity with God’s family
