  2. Definition of Teacher Professionalism • 4 C’s & 1 P • CONDUCT • COMMITMENT TO QUALITY • COMMITMENT TO LEARNING • COMMITMENT TO STUDENTS • POSITIVE ATTITUDE CONDUCT COMMITMENT TO QUALITY COMMITMENT TO LEARNING COMMITMENT TO STUDENTS POSITIVE ATTITUDE

  3. Definition of Teacher Professionalism • CONDUCT (A teacher must be a role model. A teacher must model proper manners, dress, behavior & ethics at all times.) • COMMITMENT TO QUALITY (Teacher is not satisfied with average performance. He/she must research & plan each lesson fully to give the students the best lesson possible) • COMMITMENT TO LEARNING (A teacher's education does not stop with his degree. He must continually be aware of best practices in his field, including new teaching methods and materials. This usually involves post-graduate work and frequent teacher workshops.

  4. COMMITMENT TO STUDENTS A professional teacher will always get to know her students. She will listen to students' problems, questions, and concerns and treat every student with respect. • A POSITIVE ATTITUDE Even though teachers are often frustrated, overworked and under-paid, they must remember that they chose their profession because they love their students and their content area. A school is no place for complaints and negativity.

  6. SUPPORT OF SOCIETY & EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE HIGHLY COMPETENT PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE RATHER THAN ANY OTHER NORM THIS MUST BE DONE TO PROVIDE THE NATION, ITS YOUNG PEOPLE, AND ITS FUTURE WITH THE MATHEMATICS PROGRAMS WORTHY OF THEM & OF THE FUTURE

WITHIN MATHEMATICS TEACHING (THREE LEVELS) • THERE ARE ALREADY MANY WELL-PREPARED & EFFECTIVE TEACHERS WHO PROVIDE OUTSTANDING PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP • MOTIVATED & DESIRE TO IMPROVE BUT LACK ADEQUATE PREPARATION & MUST BE GIVEN THE NECESSARY SUPPORT TO BECOME FULLY QUALIFIED & TO IMPROVE * ATTITUDES & FUNCTIONING ARE AT LESS THAN A PROFESSIONAL LEVEL. SHOULD BE REDUCED IMMEDIATELY

WHAT TEACHERS SHOULD DO TO PRACTICE PROFESSIONALISM IN THEIR CRAFT • CONTINUE DEVELOPMENT TO KEEP ABREAST OF CHANGING NEEDS, TOOLS, AND CONDITIONS (GLOBALISM, SOCIAL NETWORKINGS, TECHNOLOGY IN GENERAL AND REMOVING OF EDUCATIONAL BARRIERS) • SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIONS HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE BY PROVIDING IN-SERVICE EDUCATION, ETC.

  9. TEACHERS SHOULD BE LET-PASSER/ QUALIFIED MATH TEACHERS • SCHOOL ADMIN. SHOULD BE: 1. OPEN WITH PARENTS ABOUT SITUATION 2. PROVIDE SPECIAL AID & SUPPORT NEEDED BY TEACHERS

  10. TEACHERS DEDICATED TO STUDENT LEARNING….. CONTINUING APPEARANCE OF NEW CONCEPTS & THEORIES IN MATHEMATICS APPLICATIONS OF MATHEMATICS THESE WILL AFFECT BOTH CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOL MATHEMATICS
