  1. CurrentEvent The 3 hikers in Iran. Innocents or spies?

  2. What Happened? • In 2009, 2 men and a woman were hiking along Iran’s border and were accused of being spies. They were captured after crossing the border into Iran and thrown into Iranian prison. About a year ago, in 2010, the girl was released for medical purposes. The boys are yet to be released.

  3. Released? • Last week, MahmoudAhmadinejad, Iran’s president, told a U.S news reporter that the boys were be released in a couple of days. The boys’ parents had been relieved at this news, only to have their hopes crushed when finding out that the release would not happen. The country of Oman is now working to help free the boys. They are trying to make deals with Iran. Will any of this work?

Our Citizens =Where hikers crossed • This event affects and is related to our Government because we care about what is happening to our citizens. • We are trying to keep peace with that region because we DO NOT want war with Iran. Our history with Iran has been very unstable for decades. • Geography plays a role in this current event because the hikers crossed the border from one country to another. If they had not done so, this would not be happening.

  5. Me? • You could go to any different country and arrest you for no reason! This summer I traveled to Europe and they could’ve arrested me because I was invading their country…FOR NO REASON!
