Unpacking Prayer Part 5: Waging War in the Spirit
Matthew 6:10 “Your kingdom come, Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.” Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Not all angels are created equal • Angels designed for • different duties. • Angels in an authority • structure. • Angels with specific • assignments or “giftings.”
Angels, demons and prayer • We have been given • authority. • Understand the roles of • angels and demons. • Join with the angels in • the battle. • Do not get your eyes • off of Christ the King!
What are our tactics then, and what should be our strategies of warfare?
Tactics of our warfare ● Worship ● Binding and loosing (Matt. 16:19, 18:18)
Matthew 16:15-19 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
Tactics of our warfare ● Worship ● Binding and loosing (Matt. 16:19, 18:18) ● Resistance (James 4:7-8)
James 4:7-8 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Tactics of our warfare ● Worship ● Binding and loosing (Matt. 16:19, 18:18) ● Resistance (James 4:7-8) ● Forgiveness ● Love and mercy
Strategies of our warfare 1. Basic training 2. Air superiority 3. Ground forces 4. Occupation forces
Basic training - Bible study - Hearing God’s voice - Forgiveness - Inner healing - Living a life of worship
Air superiority - Areas of authority - Bind demons - Loose angels - Suspend curses – vows – soul-ties - Call forth God’s Kingdom
Ground forces - Love your neighbour - Feed the poor - Speak against injustice - Heal the sick • Proclaim the good • news (Rom. 10:14-15)
Romans 10:14-15 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those whopreach the gospel of peace,Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
Ground forces - Love your neighbour - Feed the poor - Speak against injustice - Heal the sick • Proclaim the good • news (Rom. 10:14-15)
Occupation forces - Live in love and peace - Live in kingdom principles - Worship - Pray for others - Teach others
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
1. Where has God given you authority? 2. What spirits have you discerned to be at work? 3. Pray to bind those spirits and loose the opposite. 4. Be prepared to step into what God is doing. 5. Pray for a strategy to hold the ground taken.
