Acts 17:32-34 32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, "We will hear you again on this matter." 33 So Paul departed from among them. 34 However, some men joined him and believed, among them Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them. Responses to the Gospel

  2. Question Preachers Hear • After a meeting – Any responses? • My answer – Yes, everyone responded. • Paul is preaching in Athens, Greece • Center of education, philosophy, pagan worship • The sermon today will end with the same 3 choices

  3. Some Mocked • Acts 17: 32a And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked • Mock = play like a child, sport, tease, jest, ridicule, make fun of another • Christ was mocked – Luke 23:36 • Today – Bullying is the word

  4. Some Mocked • Christ was mocked – Luke 23:35-37 35 And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God." 36 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, 37 and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself."

  5. Others Waited • Acts 17:32b others said, "We will hear you again on this matter." • Don't decide too quickly – good to a point • Agrippa – Acts 26:28 – Almost persuaded • Felix – Acts 24:25 – More convienent time • Wait too long = Too late

  7. Many Believed • Acts 17:34a However, some men joined him and believed • Belief comes from hearing the Word – Romans 10:17 • Belief is based on evidence – Hebrews 11:1 • Belief is NOT a leap in the dark, guess
