Goals for Today Each Student Should: Understand the Importance of Good Planning in their Academic Career; Understand Your Role and that of their Advisor; Learn What Resources are Available to Help and How to Access Them; Commit to Being Responsible for Academic Planning Throughout His/Her Academic Journey.

  4. Declare Your Major Office of the Registrar Fine Arts Office Check your degree audit to see if it indicates what you want your major to be.  Forms are available to officially change your major.

Understand Your Role and that of Your Advisor  • Accurate planning and correct scheduling is the sole responsibility of each student. • Your faculty advisor is there to: • Assist you with Scheduling and Course Registration • Mentor you and guide you throughout your academic journey. Registration is only a small part of that work.

  11. Degree Audit • If any Degree Audit information is inaccurate. . . • Report that to the Registrar using the form provided. The Registrar’s files are official. • Report that to the Fine Arts office as well via email; music@etbu.edu (the FA files are unofficial) • Make sure that information in the Registrar’s Office and the Fine Arts is consistent.

Developing Your Plans • Note the Applied Lesson Numbers • First Digit – 1235: indicates level • 1=Fr; 2=Soph; 3=Jr; 4=Sr • Second Digit – 1256: indicates credit hours • Third Digit – 1245: indicates performance area • 3=instrumental; 4=piano; 5=voice • Fourth Digit – 1256: indicates term • 5=fall; 6=spring

Developing Your Plans • Consider your overall load for each semester including: • Total hours • Specific challenges/difficulty of courses • Additional Time commitments (ensembles, recitals, observation hours, etc.) • Use of May and summer terms • Consider elective courses not accounted for in the music rotation. • Consider transfer credits which may affect your JQE.

  23. Your Assignment Continue to work on these plans while you are in this room today. Do not leave until you have a draft of your plans ready to submit to your advisor. Ask the faculty advisors present to assist you as needed. Keep this folder and its contents for your entire college career. Add to this folder all updates to your plans and related documentation (course substitutions, etc.)

  24. Remember: Plan Ahead Communicate Ask Questions You are responsible for your course of study, scheduling, and academic persistence. You will likely be self-registering in the near future, and these documents will prevent critical errors and make scheduling much easier.
