  1. Tomaz Mencinger http://www.freedomideas.com Brainstorming And Chosing Keywords for Success

  2. 1. Choosing a Niche • Use free WT to assess demand of your niche (http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com) total demand 3000 to 8000 (for a website with more than 1000 daily visitors) • Vacuum cleaner WT – total demand OK • Water softener WT – not enough demand, need more. Use Adwords related keywords OR SBI Lateral

  3. 1. Chosing a Niche • ALWAYS look for related keywords – don't build your site only from the seed word! • Don’t have a niche yet? Product based niches analysis JUST for SBI-ers at Barcelona conference! www.freedomideas.com/images/niches.xls

  4. 2. How to Brainstorm • Have the niche and related keywords? If not, try BI Lateral first or Adwords KT! • BIL cannot tell you the relevance factor as Adwords can!

  5. 2. How to Brainstorm • Adwords related keywords for water softener

  6. 2. How to Brainstorm • Have the niche and main seed words? Do vertical B + delete low demand + vertical B + delete low + ... • Example: vertical B water softener + delete low demand (below 200) + vertical B water filter + delete low demand + vertical water purifier B + delete low demand + ... • Export + organize in Excel (T2 and related T3)

  7. 2. How to Brainstorm • Choosing T2: demand over 1000, supply possibly below 1000 OR choose 2 or 3 word keywords that make sense. • Choosing T3: demand over 300 (500), supply below 1000 (500 or lower) • Typically look for 2-3 word keywords for T2 and 3-4+ word keywords for T3

  8. 3. Finding even more keywords • When BI and WT don’t show any more keywords, use Adwords tool! • Example: try WT and then Adwords: hepa vacuum • Great for finding high paying keywords! • Google suggest, Yahoo suggest – type in your keyword and see what other long tail exists

  9. 3. Finding even more keywords

  10. 3. Finding even more keywords

  11. 4. Optimizing For Best Rankings • Optimizing the Homepage • Domain name www.vacuumwizard.com • Site Concept keywords: vacuum cleaner reviews, vacuum cleaner ratings, best vacuum cleaners • Optimize the homepage for 3-5 high demand T2 • Seed word: vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner, steam cleaner • http://www.freedomideas.com/understanding-the-site-concept-tier-1-and-seed-words/

  12. 4. Optimizing For Best Rankings • Optimizing T2 and T3: Not just one for one keyword! Look for long tail – enter keyword in free WT, Google Adwords, google suggest, yahoo suggest – example tennis instruction (free, online, video, ...) http://www.tennismindgame.com/tennis-instruction.html • OR / AND related keywords – water cooler = water dispenser (http://www.allwaterpurification.com/office-water-coolers.html )

  13. 5. Internal Linking • Always use link text from both keywords: T2 to Home or T3 to T2 or Home. • LINK TEXT determines your rankings for that keyword search!!! • http://www.vacuumwizard.com/best-vacuum-cleaner.html - Back from Best Vacuum Cleaner to Vacuum Cleaner Reviews • Vary if you want to!!! Back from ... To Best Vacuum Cleaners (homepage but different link text)

  14. 5. Internal Linking • Internally link between your T3, mostly under the same T2 but also across the site. Use LINK TEXT the same as the keyword of the page. • Whenever you add a new page, see if you can make 2 or 3 links to existing pages of your site. • See what Wikipedia is doing!

  15. 5. Internal Linking

  16. 6. Recipe for Lots of Traffic • High demand / low supply keywords • Over 100 optimized pages (over 200 or even more) • Properly interlinked! • Lots of links from different domains using the anchor text the same as your keywords • 4000 average incoming links coming from 200 different domains • CONTENT + LINKS = HIGH TRAFFIC
