  1. PDP Forum • The forum's aims are to: • discuss areas of common interest • share effective practice • identify other forms of institutional level support

  2. Priorities/challenges identified (2 events May/June 2007): • Staff engagement • Student engagement • Assessment • More integrated approaches • Transferability • Developing the academic/personal tutor role

  3. PDP Forum activities 2007-8 • Two meetings on PDP implementation (Paisley and Glasgow Caledonian) • Two practitioner-focused events (St Andrews and Napier) aimed at sharing practice • An online repository to allow simplified access to a range of PDP/e-portfolio practice (http://www.recordingachievement.org/practitioners/default.asp) • A new Scottish HE PDP mailing list (currently 115 recipients, all Scottish HEIs represented (and some English)) • Added to page on Academy’s website • Commissioning a project to develop a new set of guidelines for institutions to support PDP implementation

  4. How effective is the PDP Forum? • Forum is sector-led, so feedback and evaluation important way of informing our work • Most positive aspect of the Forum is sharing practice and networking opportunities • Sharing across disciplines and institutions • US colleagues • Evaluation (asking what people would do, then asking if they did it) has given concrete evidence of this

  5. Future work? • Research into an evaluation framework for PDP; research our own practice • To inform our own work • As a way of engaging staff to present robust evidence and move beyond the ‘best practice’ approach • Student ePortfolios in non-vocational disciplines • Format/design of ePortfolios and ePortfolio software • PDP back to basics • Terminology, meaning in the 21st Century • Potential impact of HEAR • sharing practice, induction strategies, assessment, links with other sectors (schools, college, employers…)
