  2. What is it ? The Eureka Stockade was a miniature war involving the police [ Government ] and the Diggers. The Diggers were led by Peter Laylor. Many people died ,22 diggers died and over 100 diggers were taken.

  3. Where, When and Who The Eureka Stockade started at 4:45am on the 3rd of December 1854. The guards of the police come in unexpectedly and started shooting. Peter Laylor had hidden in the pub called ‘The Eureka Hotel’. Then the guards set the pub on fire.

  4. How did it start? It started with the diggers not wanting a license to mine. So the Government decided to take control and show them whose boss.

Other interesting info 9 yr old James Campbell was the first on the field after the war ended, he said he saw dead bodies, the wounded trying to rise, blood in the dust, flies in the blood and a small terrier dog howling over its dead master. Peter Laylor , the Scottish lad was born in 1827 and he was eventually was made Minister for Railways. In 1855 peter was elected to the Legislative Council to Represent the miners, and his father was an Irish member of .
