  3. What would you do right before you sleep? • Probably still checking your phone!

  4. Phenomenon • Almost everyone has a smart phone • People always walk with their heads down – typing, no matter where they are. • No human interaction • Not interested in the things or circumstances around them

  5. Phenomenon • Always checking their phone though it doesn’t ring • Feel insecure without a phone • Our phones are the first things many of us reach for when we wake up in the morning • and frequently the last thing we check before going to sleep at night

  7. Definition: Smartphone addiction • Addicted to phones • Cannot live without a phone (feel insecure) • Lack self-control • Unconsciouslychecking phones for emails, messages or other applications • Repetitively • Heavily addicted to it: anywhere, anytime

  8. Definition: Smartphone addiction • On average 30 seconds – 10 minutes • 30 times a day • because the brain likes the feeling of receiving messages or FB feedbacks

Reasons • Smart phones are overwhelmingly user-friendly – an all-in-one gadget: • games • Instant communication: phone calls/video calls; instant messengers ; SMS; social networking sites • information browser • Taking photos / videos • Etc. • Young people lacking in self-control • Overflow of information • Children being spoiled by parents

  11. Impact 1: Physical health • Impaired eyesight due to radiation • Hearing impairment • Poor digestion

  12. Impact 2: Mental health • Emotionally overinvested in the smartphone • Habitually checking your phone • Information fatigue syndrome • Stress • Anxiety • Insomnia (sleeplessness) • etc.

  17. Tip 1:No phone during meals • Enjoy your food • DON’T just keep taking photos of food or checking in in Facebook! :P

  18. Tip 2: Manage your phone usage time • Use your phone wisely. • Get rid of your checking habit. • Limit the time you use the phone if you realize you’re a habitual smartphone checker • Finish your jobs in hand first • During work or studies, switch your phone to vibration mode

  19. Tip 3:Avoid checking your phone in a social gathering • Enjoy your time with family and friends • More interaction • Check with their updates • More genuine communication • DON’T keep checking whatsapp messages or Facebook as it’s impolite!!!
