Genesis 3:15 And I will put ENMITY between you and the woman (Mary), and between your seed (Satan) and her seed (Christ); he (Christ) shall bruise your head, and you (Satan) shall bruise his heel. GOD'S WORK OF REDEMPTION CONTINUED After God started His redemption back in Gen. 3:15 and now we see it starting to UNFOLD here in Gen. chapters 12-22. God placed (enmity, hostility, hatred,) between them. God will CAST Satan and his family into the lake of fire - (Matt. 13)

  4. GOD'S WORK OF REDEMPTION CONTINUED Paul, in Romans (Romans 3:27- 4:1-5) explains that we justified by faith and not works, and how we see it ILLUSTRATED in the life of Abraham.

Abraham's COMPLACENCY: Gen. 12:1&4 V. 1 Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and from your FATHER’SHOUSE, to a LAND that I will show you . . . “ V. 4 So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, and LOT WENT WITH HIM. and Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 1. Abraham was to LEAVE his father’s house, but he allowed his nephew Lot to accompany him; which in the future would cause Abraham to have many heart aches – (Gen. 12:1,6; Acts 7:4)

  6. Abraham's COMPLACENCY: The first thing Abraham did was, he DISOBEYED God

  7. ABRAHAM DEPARTURE FROM HARAN 2. Abraham and his father SETTLED DOWN at a city called Haran (Gen. 11:31), and after his father’s DEATH Abraham went to Canaan – (Gen. 12:5-9)

  8. Abraham CARNALITY: WHAT IS CARNALITY? Carnality comes when a person lets the SINFULFLESH control his/her life – (1 Cor. 3:1-4; Gal. 5:16-17) Abraham told two LIES about his wife trying to protect his own life. 1. His deception in EGYPT – (Gen. 12:10-20) 2. His deception in PHILISTIA – (Gen. 20:1-7)

  9. What about the Sin of Lying DEFINITION OF LYING: Webster’s dictionary: 1.) To make a statement that one knows is FALSE, especially with the intent to deceive. 2.) To give a false impression or action or false statement, especially with the intent to DECEIVE. 3.)To make a false statement in order to EVADE the truth. 4.)The invention of a false story or excuse in order to DECEIVE.

What about the Sin of Lying These six things theLORDHATES, Yes, seven are anabomination to Him: 17 A PROUD look, A LYING tongue, HANDS that shed innocent blood, 18 A HEART that devises wicked plans, FEET that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false WITNESS who speaks LIES, And one who sows DISCORD among brethren. Prov. 12:22 LYING lips are an abomination to the LORD. . .” QUESTION – Do Christians LIE? – (James 3:1-12) Illustration – (John 8:37-47) LYING IS A SIN THAT GOD HATES - (Prov. 6:16-19)

  11. Abraham's TRIALS: I. The ARGUMENT - (Gen. 13:1-7) 1. Shortly after Abraham returned from Egypt, He SETTLED in Bethel, and became a very rich man. 2. An argument broke out between the herdsman of Lot, Abraham’s nephew, and his own herdsman concerning GRAZINGRIGHTS.

  12. Abraham's TRIALS: II. The AGREEMENT - (Gen. 13:8-13) 1. Abraham did not want this argument to become them, so he gave Lot the FIRSTCHOICE of the land. 2. Lot the younger man FOOLISHLY choose the land area near Sodom, a notoriously wicked city. SODOM &GOMORRAH are pictures of this sinful world and they led to Lot’s downfall – (Gen. 13:13)

WHAT WAS LOT'S FAILURE AND DOWNFALL close to the WORLD Drawing God makes it very clear that drawing close the WORLD can be very dangerous – (James 4:4) The Bible makes it clear that the Christian has three enemies. These enemies can take down any Christian, especially if the Christian is not ready to defend himself. THE THREE ENEMIES ARE: 1. The WORLD - (1 John 2:15-17) 2. The FLESH - (Rom. 8:1-11; Gal. 5:16-21) 3. The DEVIL – (1 Pet. 5:6-10)

  19. God's Commands about the World 1 John 2:15-17 Do not LOVE the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

God's Commands about the World Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.2 And do not be CONFORMEDTOTHISWORLD, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

  21. Abraham's CONFIDENCE: BROUGHT ASSURANCE - (Gen. 13:14-17) After Abraham and Lot separation, God appeared to Abraham and reaffirmed a twofold Promised: God promised to give to Abraham and his off spring all the LAND he could see. 1 . The Assurance Concerning LAND - 13:14-15

  22. 2 . The Assurance Concerning SEED - 13:16 God promised to give to Abraham’s offspring, He told Abraham . . . “I will make your descendants as the DUST of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.”

  23. Abraham's ALTARS: Abraham built TWOALTERS during this period in his life: 1. The Alter at BETHEL - (Gen. 13:3-4) 2 . The Alter at HEBRON - (Gen. 13:18) WHAT WERE THE ALTERS FOR?

  24. Applaication What have we learned so far about Abraham that can help us today? 1. Abraham OBYED God – (Gen. 12:6; John 14:15) 2. Abraham was a man of FAITH – (Gen. 15:6; Luke 17:5; Heb. 11:6) 3. When the time comes our children should LEAVE their father and mother and go own their own – (Gen. 1:25; 12:1) 4. Lying is SIN can get us into a lot of trouble – (Gen.12:10-20; 20:1-7) 5. Are we living in the WORLD like Lot did?
