  1. Qualified Partner ProgramConnectors for field termination Felice Guarna, Training Program ManagerWetzikon, January 2006

  2. Why a pre-polished connector for field termination • LAN ENVIRONMENT • Mid/low number of FO connectors • Terminations mostly on break-out cable • Short links, limited testing equipments (power meter very seldom OTDR) • Good, reliable, quick connections • LAN INSTALLERS • Mid/low experience with FO termination • Manual skill not improvable because of termination quantity/frequency • Limited tools and consumable availability

  3. Why a pre-polished connector for field termination • Cost • Connector with very limited tools and no consumable • Very fast and secure termination • No scrap for termination and polishing errors • No need or very limited training • Quality • Factory polished and tested connector gives better performance • Suitable for all LAN applications where APC is not required (CATV) • Must to meet Standard requirement for APC, SPC, UPC

  4. Pre-polished connector for field termination Functional parts Ceramic ferrule with factory polished end face prepolished fiber stub coupling medium (index mating gel) The upper part of the plug is opened with a "wedge" (here not shown). This opens the space to introduce a field stripped and cleaved fiber from the rear. Closing the upper part the fiber will be fixed and hold in place.

  5. Construction of the connector ferrule field fiber Mechanical Splice • Features • Ceramic ferrule • Factory polished tip • Reliable and proved technology • Low insertion loss • > 500 mating cycles • Connector surface inspected • Commonality through various types • same tools • same installation technique Connectors for field termination

  6. Connectors range for field termination SC LC ST

  7. Connectors for field termination Standard Tool Kit • Supply • Crimping tools • Fiber cleaver • Tweezers • Jacket stripper • Primary coating stripper • Secondary coating stripper • Length gauge • Kevlar scissors • Ferrules crimping aid • Alcohol wipes and adhesive tape • Instruction manual

  8. Red light source Standard Patch-Cord Crimp tool Connectors for field termination Optional components for Standard Tool Kit Connector adapters

  9. SC-RJ – the smallest in its class September 2005

  10. SC-RJ talents • the smallest SC-Duplex fiber optic connector (SFF) • with • a unique mechanical security system • for • data, audio and video communication • with • a high and reliable performance • suitable for • any F.O. technology

  11. SC-RJ adapter standardization ed in EN50377-6 Plug standardized in EN50377-6 work item for IEC IEC 61754-x Suitable for any standard Simplex SC connector Adapter standardized in EN50377-6

  12. SC-RJ can take them all Multimode (MM) Singlemode (SM)

  13. SC-RJ connector • Characteristics • - Push-Pull-System • - 2,5 mm Ceramic precision-ferrule • (metallic for POF only) • - Low insertion loss • - Polarized • - Field terminable • - Color coding on both sides (8 colors)

  14. SC-RJ Adapter • Characteristics • - Fits in all R&M RJ45-cut outs • - Precision PhBr sleeves for multimode • - Precision ceramic sleeves for singlemode • - SC-Simplex compatible

  15. SC-RJ tests and performance - optical

  16. SC-RJ tests and performance - mechanical

  17. SC-RJ tests and performance - environmental

  18. Applications : patch cords • R&M patch cords are delivered with color clips defining the type of fiber. • Fiber definition • 62.5/125 (OM1) → anthracite • 50/125 (OM2) → orange • 50/125 (OM3) → turquoise • 9/125 (OS1) → blue or green • 980/1000 → yellow • 200/230 → violet

  19. Applications : terminal outlets and patch panels • With mounting plate for flexible mounting in one channel holders in • - 19” patch panel • - WM box • - WM outlet • - FM outlet • - Consolidation point- One channel module holder

  20. Applications : 19” patch panelsdirect (one channel holder) and by fiberliner • 3U patch panel • 1U Patch panel • 60 Port (120 fibers) • 16 Port (32 fibers) • 12 Port (24 fibers) • splice version • for preassembled cables • field termination

  21. Applications : 24 port patch panel Snap-In • Extra adapter frame for flexible mounting in any materials • One frame for two mounting surface thicknesses • Including color coding (8 colors)

  22. SC-RJ Snap-In • Easy, fast and reusable, flexible 1.5 2.0 • Flexible mounting in hole pattern 14.9 mm x 19.5 mm • in materials with wall thickness 1.5 mm or 2.0 mm

  23. Applications : for Snap-In • 19" 1HE 24 Port Patch Panel for max. 24 adapters (48 fibers!) • Snap-In SC-RJ SM, MM and POF • Snap-In E-2000 Compact for SM and MM • Or combined with RJ45 connection modules

  24. Applications : P.C.B. mounted for Active Components

  25. Applications : Security options • Security level 1 • Visual color coding • - On connector and coding frame • - 8 different colorsblue, green, red, orange, anthracite, violet, yellow, turquoise • Security level 3 • Mechanical plug-IN protection • – adapter guard protection against inadvertently connection • Key to unlock adapter guard • Mechanical plug-OUT protection • - fiber guard – protection against inadvertently disconnection • - Key to unlock fiber guard

  26. Expanding connectors choice with pigtail assembly • When connectors performance are extremely demanding, pigtails for mechanical or fusion splice offer the best value • For single mode installation • For APC finishing • For termination of out of size cables • For economic and quick installation
