Linac-Issues From Last Review • Concerns of completing 2007 installation (Linac/BC2) • Not getting final RP approval to turn on the beam • There were issues with BC2 shielding and engineer redesigned shielding to accommodate RP requirements • Not receiving repair coils for BX24 on time • BX24 coil was repaired and delivered to SLAC in December 2007. Magnet was measured and installed in January • Not having repair opportunity days, ROD, available to complete BC2 installation • RODs were made available to install BX24 magnet, remaining BC2 earthquake supports and BL22

LTU & E-Dump Components Status • LTU and E-Dump design complete except: • Spot shielding in LTU • Most components are available for installation with few exceptions of • LTU vacuum chambers expected complete deliveries from vendor by 6/15/08 • Spot shielding for LTU not approved by RP yet, however some parts are being fabricated • Single Beam Dump in fabrication completed by the end of June • TDUN in fabrication • Supplier delivered two BYD magnet: one measured and second BYD magnet is being prep for magnetic measurements. The third and last magnet is expected to be delivered by June 20th.

LTU and Dump Installation Status • LTU and Dump installation are managed by Kathleen Ratcliffe • Using lessons learned from last two installations and following the same ISMES • All LTU stands are installed in LTU and vacuum components installation have started. Open vacuum installations have just granted under co-occupancy (i.e. interconnect vacuum chambers to the components) • Cable installations has begun • Completed all pre-assemblies in building 26 and are staged in “End Station A” for installation

LTU and Dump Installation Status • Awarded two Davis Bacon contract for LTU: installation of support stands and installation of magnets (80% complete) • Awarded one Davis Bacon contract for E-Dump: installation of support stands, e-dump steel and e-dump components installation (not fully available for installation) • Submitted purchase requisitions for TDUND, Single Beam Dump and Zero Degree Shielding

LTU and Dump Installation Status • Mechanical Fabrication department has started component installation in BTH and BTH west • Critical issues that could delay completion of installation: • LTU drifts not available in time for beam line vacuum pump down • Availability of Single Beam Dump and TDUND from MFD • Spot shielding design approval from RP • Ion Pump power suppliers not ready in time for vacuum (plans to use local power supplies) • Wire cards for Wire Scanners are not yet in fabrication • Potential problem between dump supports stands and dump housing, this issue is being resolved by the installation integration engineer • Installation of pit steel is on hold until Crane is available. Crane is certified but has not been transferred to SLAC because it is not on permanent power

Installation Assurance & Safety • Tailgate meetings before every shift to discuss daily activities and any safety related issues • Job walk with contractors before start of each job • Installation weekly meetings • Instituted Quality Control check list sign off for both components and post installation • Safe Performance Observation walk (minimum once a week for managers)

Safety Approval Documents • Statement of Work (SOW) – These documents are written by installation manager for Davis Bacon contractor and are submitted to Building Inspection Office, BIO, for approval. BIO requires 11 signatures for approval • Davis Bacon contractors are required to submit and approval of following documents: • Industrial Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (3 approval signatures) • Site Specific Safety Plan (4 approval signatures) • Job Safety Analysis (3 approval signatures signatures) • Rigging Plans (3 approval signatures) • Work Authorization Form (WAF) – this is approval for SLAC employee to work in installation site (8 approval signatures)

Planning and Scheduling Daily tailgate meetings – reporting daily installation work activities Weekly integration meetings – intergroup status reporting Weekly installation meetings – integration engineers and MFD supervisors discussing technical installation issues Weekly MFD parts status meetings – discussing status and cost on open work orders Weekly procurement meetings – discuss open and future purchase orders Weekly meeting with Turner – planning six weeks look ahead schedule with Turner

Summary • Progress towards completion of 2008 installation is going well in a safe working conditions • While waiting for beneficial occupancy we pre assembled components to the alignment stages and moved to staging area for installation • We are following the integrated schedule from Richard M. Boyce • There are still some installations challenges: • Co-occupancy with Turner constructions • Some components late into fabrication due to approval from RP • High rejection rates of copper plated drift tubes from supplier • E-Dump not yet fully accessible for installation
